ImageHello Hello! After watching the VMA's last night, you're probably wondering whatever happened to your favorite bands of the 1990's right? Here's an interesting article about those same bands lucky enough to outlast most marriages nowadays. Speaking from experiencing that decade myself, I grew up listening to everything from Garbage, Green Day and even *Nsync.

washburnreview.org has mentioned Green Day and Tool as top staples of the era. I remember Dookie taking the world by storm, and whenever you'd watch MTV, "LongView" would be on. Being together since 1987, they have gone above and beyond with their career. After releasing the mega top selling, American Idiot, Green Day  have proven that they're not just some product of the nineties, but can define a whole generation. Kudos to our guys!

Heavy Metal band, Tool has acquired a huge faithful fan base  since their release of "Aenima." If you're lucky enough to get a ticket to their live shows, you are in fact blessed! The article states that the rockers sell out shows in a matter of minutes. That's awesome, congratulations to them! You can read this article here.

While, Green Day and Tool are still alive and kicking today, some artists aren't so lucky. Although, Smashing Pumpkins broke up a while ago, they have however reformed and are planning on touring this fall. Rockers Bush haven't separated, but haven't recorded anything close to what "Sixteen Stone" was. It's all pretty sad considering music of this decade was and is still very awesome. I would love to see a come back from most of the bands that invaded everyone's radios and televisions back then.

ImageHello everyone! On Thursday, September 4, 2008 The Russian Union Of Evangelical Christians wished for a criminal investigation against a television network, for airing the popular show, South Park. The Union requested prosecutors to ban SP because it corrupts society's youth.

When asked about the reason their leader, Konstantin Bendas, wanted the show pulled, he was quoted as saying, "covert and overt propaganda of homosexuality and pedophilia as norms of sexual life." According to him, about 20 law studies and psychology experts have been studying this issue, and he has added, "We have received some 15 reports by experts and they all agree that broadcasting the cartoon has a negative impact on viewers, especially on children and teenagers."

That is pretty bias considering that there are worse shows being shown to teens and kids, such as, Oh I don't know, Hannah Montana, or High School Musical? None of which even remotely display decent  examples for such fragile young minds.I disagree with his idea of "overt propaganda of homosexuality," because it is a matter of teaching tolerance towards sensitive topics that need to be addressed in today's society rather than cashing in on success.

Their version of Cartoon Network, "2x2", has experienced similar accusations. Submitting a request to a General's Office, Russian Protestant leaders wanted to revoke the channel's license for broadcasting the show on their channel.  They are quoted about their reasons for doing so as, "Promotes immorality and violence." If that wasn't enough, February 2008,  television body, Rossvyazokhrankultura, issued a warning to pull likewise shows such as,"Happy Tree Friends" and " The Adventures Of Big Jeff," to avoid legal issues. You can read all about these shenanigans here.

I remember watching an interview on You Tube with creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker when they were on Nightline. They themseleves can be quoted as saying, "I don't care what you say, we've never done anything to ruin a kid." It does sadden me that free speech is fading away, and funny how nowhere in the article does it say whether or not parents agree with this decision.

ImageHello everyone! Now that you're caught up on the latest Green Day gossip, I thought I'd tell you about some interesting music news! Simple Plan has been in the headlines lately, and in this article they're shown in a whole new light. As we told you guys a few months ago about their new album, SP has left their boyish behavior behind, and instead has adapted a more mature, of age image.

After releasing their last album four years ago, the guys definitely were ready for any sort of change to come their way.Member, Jean-Fracois is quoted as saying,"We're not the type of band that likes to repeat itself."That indeed is already a smart move to a fresh start. With their current release back in February, some songs, such as "Your Love Is A Lie," can be compared to "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams." What may surprise you is, the band's album has found its own success. In the United States alone, the album was a Top 15 hit.

Stinco, the band's lead guitarist, has even mentioned one of their biggest influences in terms of maturing with fans and as a band. He is quoted as saying,''You know, you don't think about Green Day as the band that made 'Dookie,It's not that band anymore. They're a much bigger band, a much stronger band and much more serious band, too. So I think it is possible to transcend that genre.''You can read this article here. Just because you grow up, doesn't mean you can't be awesome!

Side Projects - Miscellaneous

ImageHello sorry about the lack of updates, Tropical Storm Fay has really put a damper on things. She should be on her way sometime soon. But, luckily I got some interesting news for all of you today! The hot thing this summer, other than the weather of course, seems to be side projects! White Stripes front man, Jack White is proudly talking about his side band,The Raconteurs.Green Day's current side band, Foxboro Hot Tubs also gets a brief mention.

Side projects have been proven to have as much success as the members already established other rock bands.Take Green Day's garage band for example. An album cheerfully titled, Stop Drop and Roll, was released in May and came into the charts at No. 37. Could their success be due to the fact that their line up are still the same members as Green Day? They are quoted as saying, "The only similarity between Green Day and Foxboro Hot Tubs is that we're the same band."

Although The Raconteurs  don't have the same members, except for Jack White who sings lead in both this band and White Stripes.Others may squirm in discussing the two bands, hoping to induce some confusion and mystery on them. White doesn't see it as a hassle.Mr.White is quoted as saying, “I think, halfway through the record, we realized, wow, this is really a band. We were all really excited to make a go of it — go out there and promote it and be a band and make more records. I don’t think there was any intention halfway through the first record that the Raconteurs was a side project. Some people would assume we were too busy, but when something good is happening, just go with it. Why not?”

Of course, he hasn't forgotten about White Stripes, so don't worry fans. Although sometimes, a break from the everyday norm is always a good thing,“It’s a total change of pace from what I’d been doing for the past few years with the White Stripes.Dual songwriters and a full range of sounds. There are no rules, like we have in the White Stripes. I wouldn’t want to do something that was the same thing. This was going to be completely different. That’s what I was excited about — but mostly the collaborating on the writing.”

Leaving your bandmates out of the newer projects may seem pretty hard, and perhaps spark some envy. Bad Seals' musicians were not invited to join Grinderman. Releasing their self-titled album in 2007,  rumors had it in for them about Bad Seals' break up. They apparently had nothing to do with each other whatsoever. When asked about the side band, Sclavunos is quoted as saying, "Grinderman is about a certain attitude to making music, And a wilingness to play  loud." You can read this article here.

So whether or not side bands affect the musician's real bands, it goes to show just how much they really get their creative juices flowing, conjuring up sweet success.

ImageHello everyone how are you doing today? Rolling Stone Magazine has made its Weekend Rock List: Best Producers. They are asking you the reader to choose your favorites, and they will count the votes this coming Monday.

RS decided to make a list since producers have been in the news the last couple of days. While waiting for everyone to decide, the infamous music magazine put some of their own top five together. They are as follows:

  • Brian Eno
  • Jerry Wexler
  • Rick Rubin
  • Nigel Godrich
  • Steve Albini

RS is honoring those behind the scenes that make the music we love to listen to happen. Brian Eno produced albums for acts such as, Coldplay, U2, and David Bryne. Producers often do not get much of the credit, but if it wasn't for them, much of the music you and I love wouldn't exist.  You can read this article right here. Be sure to get all your votes in and we will have the results for you on Monday. Have a great week!
