Image Good day Nimrods! What's happening?

We all have been hearing non stop about Green Day's new upcoming album. But what we haven't heard is what direction they have decided to take. Well in this article, you may very well find out. Brace yourselves!

Music magazine, NME has stated that their brand new record could possibly be taking a "power-pop" direction. As Billie Joe told AP Magazine before, "I am pushing myself to be progressive in songwriting and as a songwriter." He didn't reveal any song titles, but has cited The Creation, The Who, The Beatles, Cheap Trick, and The Jam as major influences.

This seems pretty interesting and I know it'll be a smash. It certainly is cool to see the guys putting their creative juices to good use. You can read the NME article here. All in all, the band has enjoyed working with producer, Butch Vig on the project. Vig is best known for drumming in his own band, Garbage and producing Nirvana's 1991 smash, "Nevermind."

There ya have it! I hope this week is going great for you guys so far!

Image Howdy Nimrods, how are you all doing? Are you excited for another busy week? We're always ready here on Nimrod St. If you haven't noticed already!

Here's some interesting news! On Friday, Green Day's own keyboardist, Jason Freese will be chatting to a camera discussing his passion for rock and roll, and motorcycles. It will also feature other musicians, such as the Bravery and Incubus. Plus, many many more artists will be featured too. I don't know about you, but kinda reminds me of You Tube and Myspace, but for rockers. And not as cheesey of course.

Fresh web videos will be shown weekly on RockMoto.com, the article describes this site as, "social networking for bikers who rock." Their concept was expanded to help other bikers to support and mingle with each other, whereas before it was only used to screen videos. I give them kudos for creating a great idea, and a pat on the back for making it reach out to others as well.

Users will be able to upload their own videos and trade messages on their own MotoMatch service. Pretty cool! Surveys can be filled out about interests, riding abilities, and you can view models of bikes you may want to ride. That's not all, there are two interet radios hooked up to the site for your listening convenience. One of them goes by the name of RockMoto radio!

Host and webmaster of the site, Jessica Prokup speaks about it, "A lot of the same emotions we get from music, motorcyclists get from motorcycles." The site is funded by Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, and last but not least, Suzuki.

But keyboarding extaordinare, Jason Freese isn't just one of the musicians interested. Angels and Airwaves guitarist, David Kennedy also talks about the passion of bike riding. The whole LA Times article can be read right here. Check out the site sometime!

Image Hello Nimrod Street how's your weekend going so far? Ours is just going peachy keen!

As you probably read in a past story, Irish super group, U2 will release their album sometime early next year. They've made some major changes when it comes to who their lucky producer will be.

They wrote a total of 60 songs, and are only using 50 of those. None of the songs their former producer, Rick Rubin, worked on will be on the record. U2's guitarist, The Edge, says it was for the best, "We actually laid all that stuff to one side. Really out of deference to Rick and that set of songs we just said, 'OK, that's that', and we drew a line. So none of the Rick material went into this project. Everything has been written subsequentially. He gave us great advice as much as anything."

However, they worked with their former The Joshua Tree producers, Brian Eno, who worked with Coldplay on their last album, Viva La Vida, and Daniel Lanois. There is no set album title as of yet, it is still rumored to be No Line On The Horizon. Edge describes it as, "It's an image, Bono tells me. It's like when you're moving forward, but you're not exactly sure what you're heading towards-that moment where the sea and the sky blend into one. It's an image infinity, I suppose- a kind of Zen image."

Looks like 2009 will be a great year for music! This will be their 12th album and is a follow up to How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb from 2004. All you U2 fans can find the article from RollingStone.com here. OH yeah bet you're all super excited now!

Image Hello Nimrods how are you doing this fine day? You're chillaxing on Nimrod Street of course!

So did you enjoy those reading through those scans? I sure did enjoy it! The news doesn't stop there, I've got more to keep the fans pumped up.

Besides a brand new baby, an upcoming album and tour, what else does Mike have up his sleeve? Our beloved bass player  is teaming up with Macbeth to release his own pair of footwear.  What do you think they will look like? Knowing it's coming from Mike, it's gotta be awesome.

He will be working for the first time with the famous brand, I for one am very very excited about this. First Green Day shoes and now Mike Dirnt shoes. What other innovative idea will the guys come up with next?

The super cool shoes will be out in stores during the Summer of 2009. And to make things just a tad bit special, it is perfect timing for Green Day's brand spankin' new album!! We can expect loads of new stuff from the guys in the coming year....tunes and threads? Sounds wicked awesome no?

I certainly cannot wait for the guys to conquer all in 2009. The news can be read here on GreenDay.com. By the way, I'd like to wish everyone a very happy and safe Thanksgiving weekend.

Image Hiya Nimrods, as promised we officially have the scans that everyone has been talking about, and we are very excited to bring them to you!

Green Day have come in at number 82 on AP's Most Anticipated Albums Of 2009 as you can see from this scan here. I know they can be a little hard to read, but let me tell you, it's well worth it. The name of their article is called: Heart,Soul & A Killer Tattoo.

Talking about what they have in store for this new era coming up, Billie speaks very confidently, "There's nothing to prove anymore; we're just trying to show we have this spirit that rock n' roll can change lives, and it really is a religious experience that means something to us. It's more about faith now."  The mega music magazine got a first listen to the brand new album. Armstrong also adds,"Whether it's the biggest Marshall attack sound or the most transistor-radio sound, everything on this record serves a purpose."

The guys started to talk about their upcoming project as soon as 2006, bass player Mike Dirnt shares, "It always amazes me how quickly it happens. You're sitting around one day and you're like, 'I'm unemployed? This is bullshit.'" You call up the other guys and you're like, 'Hey you want a job?' We came back in pretty quick, but we tried to remember not to hit ourselves so hard over the head with too much work." The guys were soon mixing ingredients for the best music they've ever cooked up.

Here's an inside peek at some songs they already have planned, the article also explains the meaning of them. The record will feature 3 acts. However, AP only displays two in the scans.

Heroes And Cons for Act 1 which will feature songs such as,

  • "21st Century Breakdown"
  • "Know You're Enemy"
  •  "Viva La Gloria"
  • "Before The Lobotomy"
  • "Christian's Inferno"
  • "Last Night On Earth"

Charlatans And Saints for Act 2

  • "March Of The Dogs"

You may be wondering what is with the kooky names right? Well Armstrong and Cool both attended a Christian friend's baby dedication. The sermon inspired the song, "March Of The Dogs" which is about being an outsider in the church, and it's a 'scathing attack' on religion itself.

The chairman for Warner Brothers and CEO Tom Walley speaks very positively about Billie's brave songwriting, "Billie clearly continues to want to provoke and challenge the world as it exists, but with this album, he's also challenging himself more than ever before."

As for the other tune, "21st Century Breakdown," there's a lyric that goes, "Tells us a story that's by candlelight/Waging a war losing the fight." Pretty catchy eh? Tre Cool adds his own two cents too, "Sometimes we'll look at each other when we're talking about these songs and be, 'WHOA-what are people gonna think about that?' Who knows, though-you know what I mean? Let's see, let's shake some shit up-that's all you can do."

The album, not yet titled, is expected to be released sometime in Spring 2009. We'll have all the info waiting for you as well. I'd like to thank Resident Nimrod, Parinaz for supplying us with the scans. By the way, to see the full set of scans, click on the comment link below.

Image Hey everyone what's going on?

AP Magazine has finally done an interview with Billie Joe, I know you've all been really exciting to read it. SO here we go!!!

The music mag was granted access to a Hollywood studio where Green Day have been hard at work on their follow up album to American Idiot. This is the first of a two-part web super exclusive, and our guy Billie Joe discusses working with producer, Butch Vig, stereotypes and much much more!

When asked about what their main idea musically for the upcoming record was, Armstrong replied, "You know, I really like fucking with arrangements, and I always try to look at the possibilities of how you write power-pop music. You know, it's like, how do you take something--and it could be anything from the Creation and The Who to the Beatles to Cheap Trick to the Jam--and try to expand on the idea of what is suppose to be three--chord mayhem? And how do you do it in a way where the arrangements are just unpredictable? So I'm pushing myself to be progressive in songwriting and being a songwriter. I come from a culture where I'm into great albums, and I still believe in that. I'm not saying for it this hard every time--there might be times when I want to have something that's a little bit more spontaneous and the off cuff--but with this record, the feeling's been that you've got to just go with it."

That's wicked awesome, now we did mention chatting about Butch Vig earlier in the article. Our guy let's us know it was all good, "I think he's got a lot of integrity and a lot of class, and one of the things I really respect about Butch is that he doesn't just go for things that are going to be million--sellers, or something that's gonna be massive for the sake of being massive, or is going to look flashy on his resume or something. He works with a lot of different types of bands, and it could be a platinum band, or it could be more of a garage band. And he's got a lot of history of that. I feel like we kind of come from the same place, where he started in Wisconsin in kind of a garage-y atmosphere and working with bands at Smart Studios, and you know, we made our first record for $700. He totally understand that, And he doesn't take it for granted what we have here."

Wow, sounds like they had a great time wouldn't you say so? One of the questions was about rock star stereotypes, AP got the scoop on the rocker's opinion about this on going situation. Billie says,"I don't know--having a family is a learning process for me too. I happen to have a really patient wife, and she's really cool, and she's a really politically conscious person, especially with environmental issues, and I think she has some sort of fear of the end of the world that's naturally embedded into her. And sometimes I think that she may have married the end of the world. So I don't know, hopefully between the two of us we can raise a family together and lean on each other."

Cool beans! There ya have it folks, for more on the interview click on AP's website here. Now like I said, we will have the scans about the album up shortly. I can't wait to share with all of you!!! I would also like to thank our Resident Nimrod, Parinaz for the news! Don't miss out on pre-ordering this exclusive issue for just $5.00 on their website.

Image Howdy everyone how are you?

Ultimate Guitar has published an article listing possible rockers to replace Sublime's former lead singer, Bradley Nowell. I bet you all are just absolutley dying to know.

The list included: Ras-1 from Long Beach Dub All Stars, Ian McKaye from Fugazi and Minor Threat, Dexter Holland from The Offspring, Jim Lindberg from Pennywise, and of course Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day. Oh whoa, imagine that eh?

For Armstrong, the article says the idea has been very open, but seems very unlikely due to the fact that he is busy with his own band. Which in case you haven't figured it out yet, have an album due out next year as well as a world wide tour.

One of the living members, Floyd "Bud" Gaugh, said he had some people in mind to fill the big gap. But he didn't want to begin "revealing anyone's name." So instead, Distorted Magazine went ahead and gave some ideas of their own.

Now it's obviously not set in stone, so do take it with a grain of salt. You can read the article for yourself here. What are your thoughts about this situation? I think it'd be cool to have either Billie Joe or Dexter Holland as their new lead singer, but that's just my opinion.
