Hello sorry about the lack of updates, Tropical Storm Fay has really put a damper on things. She should be on her way sometime soon. But, luckily I got some interesting news for all of you today! The hot thing this summer, other than the weather of course, seems to be side projects! White Stripes front man, Jack White is proudly talking about his side band,The Raconteurs.Green Day's current side band, Foxboro Hot Tubs also gets a brief mention.
Side projects have been proven to have as much success as the members already established other rock bands.Take Green Day's garage band for example. An album cheerfully titled, Stop Drop and Roll, was released in May and came into the charts at No. 37. Could their success be due to the fact that their line up are still the same members as Green Day? They are quoted as saying, "The only similarity between Green Day and Foxboro Hot Tubs is that we're the same band." Although The Raconteurs don't have the same members, except for Jack White who sings lead in both this band and White Stripes.Others may squirm in discussing the two bands, hoping to induce some confusion and mystery on them. White doesn't see it as a hassle.Mr.White is quoted as saying, “I think, halfway through the record, we realized, wow, this is really a band. We were all really excited to make a go of it — go out there and promote it and be a band and make more records. I don’t think there was any intention halfway through the first record that the Raconteurs was a side project. Some people would assume we were too busy, but when something good is happening, just go with it. Why not?” Of course, he hasn't forgotten about White Stripes, so don't worry fans. Although sometimes, a break from the everyday norm is always a good thing,“It’s a total change of pace from what I’d been doing for the past few years with the White Stripes.Dual songwriters and a full range of sounds. There are no rules, like we have in the White Stripes. I wouldn’t want to do something that was the same thing. This was going to be completely different. That’s what I was excited about — but mostly the collaborating on the writing.” Leaving your bandmates out of the newer projects may seem pretty hard, and perhaps spark some envy. Bad Seals' musicians were not invited to join Grinderman. Releasing their self-titled album in 2007, rumors had it in for them about Bad Seals' break up. They apparently had nothing to do with each other whatsoever. When asked about the side band, Sclavunos is quoted as saying, "Grinderman is about a certain attitude to making music, And a wilingness to play loud." You can read this article here. So whether or not side bands affect the musician's real bands, it goes to show just how much they really get their creative juices flowing, conjuring up sweet success.
