All you Blink-182 fans will soon be seeing a lot more of Mark Hoppus on your televisions beginning this September when he'll start hosting his very own show on Fuse called "A Different Spin With Mark Hoppus". It was officially announced at the Radio City Music Hall with many names in attendance such as: "Musician and Producer, Mike Bair, President, MSG Media , Sal LoCurto, SVP Programming and Development, Fuse" along with Mark himself all answering questions from the inquisitive press.
Hoppus will co-host "A Different Spin" which informs music lovers about "feature music news, fun panel discussions and special reports from the show’s correspondents, offering a humorous and entertaining spin on the music industry, including concert tours, festival and other music-related happenings." Correspondents and other co-hosts will be announced sometime in the upcoming weeks.
The bass player extraordinaire couldn't be more thrilled to be apart of this super cool music network. "I am stoked to join the Fuse family and have a show where I can talk about a topic that I’m passionate about, music. More importantly, I’m excited to force millions of people to watch me on a weekly basis on national television."
Senior vice president of Fuses' programming and development said Hoppus is the perfect match to their line-up especially with his sense of humor and love of music. "Mark’s talent and keen understanding of music will help make ‘A Different Spin with Mark Hoppus’ unlike any other music show on television. The show is a perfect vehicle for Mark’s personality as it will be steeped in music, always entertaining, intimate and funny. ‘A Different Spin with Mark Hoppus’ was developed to compliment the wide variety of music programming on Fuse - including live concerts, festival coverage and in-depth interview series with the biggest names in music."
Now focusing on what's going on with Blink-182 and their new music, Mark discusses the state of where his band is right now. “When Blink first started reforming, we got in the studio and started putting ideas down for many songs, 'Up All Night’ is definitely the one song that is furthest along…but we haven’t had a chance to sit down and finish recording it.”
He also stated that making "Up All Night" a new single was very likely but not at all definite. “When we get in the studio and start writing a bunch of new stuff, we’re going to figure out which is the best song to release first. It’s not like we’re holding anything back from anybody. We just want the first thing we put out there to be great, and it might end up being that song.”
Hoppus admits there isn't a solid release date and insists on not rushing the recording process in order to ensure a great album. “Here’s the deal: We’re trying to finish it in 2010. We’re not going to rush something that sucks, and we’re not going to take forever to put out something we don’t love.”
You can bet this time around they'll be doing things differently than they did on their 2003 self-titled release, which in my opinion is still the best Blink album of all time. “Because we spent so much time experimenting on [Blink-182 (2003)], I think we know what works and what doesn’t. So hopefully, this process will go quicker than the last. We’re going into the studio with the attitude that we’re going to work hard on this album and release something as soon as we can."
While we wait for the guys to finish up their work of art, here's the Evolution of Blink-182 through the years.
