spidermanactor2010Get ready to meet the new Spidey! British actor Andrew Garfield will be taking over Toby Maguire's role as Peter Parker after a worldwide search. He may not be largely known here in the states, but is the UK's biggest up and comer having starred in "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus" and "Boy A", which lead him to receive a BAFTA in 2008 for Best Actor.

Garfield will also be co-starring with Jessie Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake in the anticipated Facebook film, "Social Network" to be directed by David Fincher. What else has he been up to? Andrew "will star in the Oscar-bait drama Never Let Me Go opposite Carey Mulligan (An Education) and Keira Knightley."

How did Garfield first find out he had this epic role? Just recently on a warm July afternoon! "The new webslinger was in Cancun, Mexico as part of Sony’s international media event to promote The Social Network. Sony honcho Amy Pascal called Garfield into her suite where director Marc Webb, Marvel’s Avi Arad, producer Laura Ziskin and Sony exec Matt Tolmach surprised the young actor with the news."

As we told  you in February, Spidey will be slinging his web again sometime in 2012 and will focus mostly on a younger version of the Marvel hero. The flick will be directed by Marc Webb, who also did "(500) Days of Summer".

tb2010Having just completed the massively successful, "Alice In Wonderland", director extraordinare Tim Burton, has now been rumored to focus his attention on yet another bizarre project, "The Addams Family".

A source reports that the new film wont be based on past adaptaions of "Addams" such as movies or tv shows. To switch things up a bit, Burton will direct it using 3-D stop-motion animation instead of any physical actors.

Also, according to this source, "Illumination Entertainment, the Universal-based family film unit headed by Chris Meledandri, has acquired the underlying rights of the Addams drawings, once a staple of The New Yorker magazine... Meladandri will produce the film. Kevin Miserocchi of the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation will be executive producer. A writer will be hired shortly. Burton, whose visual creations are currently on display at a MOMA exhibit that opened last November, is expected to provide much of the visual look of the film himself."

To add fuel to this, FearNet.com reports that Burton's next film will be based on a project called, "Frankenweenie". Harry Knowles from Aint It Cool News has mentioned that he heard from executive producer, Don Hahn, who discussed the film. "the puppets are ready, the script is done and now that Tim Burton is clear of ALICE IN WONDERLAND... he's set to helm FRANKENWEENIE in 3D."

Whichever project is indeed next, I'm looking forward to whatever Burton masterpieces turn up!

Could "Wicked" Go To The Big Screen?

wicked2010In honor of good ol' Saint Patty's day, we are going green!

The massive success of films "Alice in Wonderland" and "Avatar" have inspired two companies to hop aboard the 3-D success band wagon and this time it could be none other than the classic "The Wizard of Oz"! Not a fan of the original film? Well you're in luck because ever since a decade ago it was considered sin to even think about remaking "Oz "in the same fashion as the 1939 film.

Obviously there have been knock off's such as "The Wiz" and "The Return of Oz", which both epically failed! No filmmakers have made a truly good onscreen version of the L. Frank Baum story since Judy Garland stared in the role of Dorothy. But alas! The cycle of bad remake "Oz" films could change since these "two companies" that are fighting to push for the big screen are Disney and Warner Brothers, and there is plenty of "Oz" to go around.

The LA Times have reported that Warner has been developing their Oz version with Temple Hill, producers of "Twilight", and screenwriters from "Shrek Forever After". This version of the script is a more comtemporary story about Dorothy's granddaughter who comes back to fight off evil in the land of "Oz". This has producer Basil Iwanyk from "Clash of the Titans" and Todd MacFarlane creator of "Spawn" lined up at its door. This revision of the tale could very well take the reigns over the "Harry Potter" movie franchise since the Potter series is about to end it's decade long run.

As for Disney, Joe Roth producer for "Alice In Wonderland" has been toying with developing "Brick", this feature would take the Wizard of Oz's point of view and explain how he came to "sit behind the Emerld City's magic curtain". It would be a re-boot of Baum's "Oz" storylines since the script will begin with "The Wizard as a con man in a traveling circus who goes on a similar adventure as Dorothy bizarrely ending up in Oz". Disney and Roth are already considering directors, so they are moving pretty quickly unlike WB.

This poses another issue, these rapidly growing ideas for "Oz" could kill any thoughts on broadway musical "Wicked" finding its way to the big screen. Especially since fans have been going crazy over the hit broadwar show for a whopping seven whole years! The top grossing musical since 2003 explains this twisted tale from the Wicked Witch of the West's perspective.

So why hasn't Hollywood been going bananas over making "Wicked" a blockbuster smash with its financial success? Actually, believe it or not, yet another major Motion Picture studio is curently working on it! That's right, Universal Pictures has been trying to get this film up and running for a while but producer Marc Platt keeps insisting that the process should take a "slow approach", so there is no time frame for its release.

If Disney and Warner Brothers get their respective versions of "Oz" on track before "Wicked", it would kill the chances of Universal green lighting their plans soon. Although, it could be possible to have two films in theaters at once and still manages to work out in the end. Some examples would be: "Armageddon" and "Deep Impact", "Dante's Peak" and "Volcano" and "Infamous" and "Capote".

So will three competing Oz revisions, will Wicked find it's way to into theaters soon? We'll just have to wait and find out!

Here's the trailer to the broadway musical, enjoy!

aiw2010Hey kids, so what were your plans this weekend? Did they include perhaps going to your local movie theater and watching "Alice In Wonderland" ? If so, you won't be surprised to find out that the movie has become a smash hit grossing $41 million on opening night alone and playing across 3,700 movie screens. Not to mention bringing in a total of $116 million on Oscar weekend!

Although there were some disappointing reviews, they did not stop audiences from heading out and enjoying this Tim Burton film. This takes the cake for the eighth biggest opening of all time, putting "Spider-Man" at number nine. "Even happier for Walt Disney Studios, 'Alice' found another $90 million outside the U.S. for a 3-D global cume of $210 million."

Coming in strong at number two was Overture Films, "Brooklyn's Finest", which brought in an unexpected $13.5 million on 1.900 screens. The significantly lower number of screens comes from the fact that the thriller had quite a bit of trouble finding a distributer even after impressive notices at the 2008 Toronto Film Festival. Overture have told HitFix that they are "elated" with the end results and this is their second consecutive hit after "The Crazies".

In third place, Martin Scorsese's flim, "Shutter Island" staring Leonardo Dicaprio ranked in $13.5 million. The movie now has a total of $95.8 million and should increase up to $100 million sometime during the week.

At number four is the police comedy, "Cop Out" raking in $9.1 million with a total gross of $32.3 million. The Kevin Smith directed film will probably end up making around $40 million, not too bad since it only took $30 Mill to make it.

Rounding out the top five is, the 3-D James Cameron flick, "Avatar". Taking home another $7.7 million and a new gross of $720.1 million and $2.55 billion globally.

Spanning over 147 screens in limited release, "The Ghost Writer" has made a pretty good $1.3 million with a total cume of $2.6 million. That number should ascend to $10 million if Summit Entertainment doesn't go wide in the next couple of weeks.

Will you be watching the 82nd Annual Academy Awards tonight?"Avatar", "The Blind Side", "District 9", "An Education", "The Hurt Locker", "Inglourious Basterds", "Precious", "A Serious Man", "Up"  and "Up in the Air" are all up for The Best Picture category. The Oscars will be airing live tonight on ABC so don't miss it!

Muse "Under Review" DVD Coming Later This Month

muse2010 Muse will release a DVD called "Under Review", which highlights their entire career on March 23rd and will feature rare concert and interview footage of the British rock trio.

There will also be contributions from their friends and family who lived and have written about their amazing journey to global fame. Along with this, there will also be never before seen photos, news reports and other fantastic features to create a really one of a kind documentary.

In addition, there will be interviews with former managers, producers, close confidantes, band engineers, video directors and biographer Mark Beaumont. The awesome DVD can be purchased at seeofsound.com!

On a side note, Muse is quite disappointed in their label, Warner Music, at the moment for removing their music off illegal downloading sites such as, Spotify.

Chris Wolstenholme, bass player for the band, thinks it will surely reduce their fan base. "It's like taking your song off the radio, isn't it? You're instantly taking your song away from a group of potential listeners."

He has also insisted that the decision to remove free music is hardly the artists choice and accusses the music industry of doing anything to boost any revenue. "The corporations are setting the rules on these things because they're clutching at straws."

"They've lost so much money on record sales because of the internet. I do sometimes feel that this whole restriction that's been set on how your music can get out there these days that doesn't ever really come from the bands. It's coming from the corporations behind everything. As far as bands are concerned you just want people to hear your music whichever way they can."

Wolstenholme's brutally honest comments come after Edgar Bronfman, Warner Music CEO has stated that streaming music is dangerous for the music industry. "Free streaming services are clearly not positive for the industry and as far as Warner Music is concerned songs will not be licensed."

kurt2010Director of the Academy Award nominated drama "The Messenger" is negotiating re-working the screenplay to a still untitled Kurt Cobain film on his life. Originally, screenwriter David Benioff of "Brothers" took on the project way back in 2007. Along with this, Oren Moverman will be taking on the reigns directing this long awaited flick.

Part of the material such as, Kurt's life, music and suicide will come partially from Charles R. Cross' book "Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain" from 2001. Universal had originally purchased the rights from widow, Courtney Love who had already given the rights for Cross to use in his book.

In 2005, writer and director Gus Van Sant made a fictional drama "Last Days" reminiscing about Kurt's drug habits and Benioff did extensive research on old friends in Aberdeen and Seattle to inform the Universal drafts.

This seems like it will definitley be an amazing bio-pic and we are extremely excited to see the finished product! Stay tuned for more updates!

Muse010Recently we told you about how super group, Muse is working on the soundtrack to "Clash of The Titans". Well, turns out it wasn't so!

Director, Louis Leterrier revealed to MTV that he wasn't exactly talking about the band themselves but more along the lines of just front-man Matt Bellamy doing it solo.

“It was not Muse ever. It was Matt Bellamy. I love Muse, I’m the biggest Muse fan ever, but I wanted something a little different. Matt wrote a lot of stuff, but he started his tour. So not so long ago, he called me and he was like ‘Louis, I’m so sorry. I have to be respectful to my audience and professional and I have to stop on Clash.’”

Leterrier had intended to for the rocker to work with composer Craig Armstrong on a half hour of music for the March 26th film release. However, instead Neil Davidge from Massive Attack will now be taking on the reigns for the movie. “Craig Armstrong is still doing the score and I called my friend Neil Davidge from Massive Attack to replace Matt for the areas that Matt was doing. So it’ll be Craig Armstrong and Massive Attack, which is pretty exciting.”

Despite the letdown, Leterrier still considers himself a huge fan of Matt's work and is interested in working together sometime down the road. “On my computer I’ve got great Matt Bellamy stuff, It’s like a rain check, like let’s do something later.”

Speaking of these guys, the trio's new video for "Resistance" premiered on all music networks yesterday January 14th and is part of Muse's latest album bearing the same name. The vid was directed by Wayne Isham and allows everyone to take a gander at the band's energetic live shows. "Resistance" has hit number three on the Billboard Hot 200 since its September 2009 release.

In case you missed the premiere, here's the video below!
