Alice In Wonderland Is A Smash!
Submitted by NimrodOnElmStreet on Sun, 03/07/2010 - 18:08
Hey kids, so what were your plans this weekend? Did they include perhaps going to your local movie theater and watching "Alice In Wonderland" ? If so, you won't be surprised to find out that the movie has become a smash hit grossing $41 million on opening night alone and playing across 3,700 movie screens. Not to mention bringing in a total of $116 million on Oscar weekend!
Although there were some disappointing reviews, they did not stop audiences from heading out and enjoying this Tim Burton film. This takes the cake for the eighth biggest opening of all time, putting "Spider-Man" at number nine. "Even happier for Walt Disney Studios, 'Alice' found another $90 million outside the U.S. for a 3-D global cume of $210 million."
Coming in strong at number two was Overture Films, "Brooklyn's Finest", which brought in an unexpected $13.5 million on 1.900 screens. The significantly lower number of screens comes from the fact that the thriller had quite a bit of trouble finding a distributer even after impressive notices at the 2008 Toronto Film Festival. Overture have told HitFix that they are "elated" with the end results and this is their second consecutive hit after "The Crazies".
In third place, Martin Scorsese's flim, "Shutter Island" staring Leonardo Dicaprio ranked in $13.5 million. The movie now has a total of $95.8 million and should increase up to $100 million sometime during the week.
At number four is the police comedy, "Cop Out" raking in $9.1 million with a total gross of $32.3 million. The Kevin Smith directed film will probably end up making around $40 million, not too bad since it only took $30 Mill to make it.
Rounding out the top five is, the 3-D James Cameron flick, "Avatar". Taking home another $7.7 million and a new gross of $720.1 million and $2.55 billion globally.
Spanning over 147 screens in limited release, "The Ghost Writer" has made a pretty good $1.3 million with a total cume of $2.6 million. That number should ascend to $10 million if Summit Entertainment doesn't go wide in the next couple of weeks.
Will you be watching the 82nd Annual Academy Awards tonight?"Avatar", "The Blind Side", "District 9", "An Education", "The Hurt Locker", "Inglourious Basterds", "Precious", "A Serious Man", "Up" and "Up in the Air" are all up for The Best Picture category. The Oscars will be airing live tonight on ABC so don't miss it!
Muse "Under Review" DVD Coming Later This Month
Submitted by NimrodOnElmStreet on Wed, 03/03/2010 - 14:10
Muse will release a DVD called "Under Review", which highlights their entire career on March 23rd and will feature rare concert and interview footage of the British rock trio.
There will also be contributions from their friends and family who lived and have written about their amazing journey to global fame. Along with this, there will also be never before seen photos, news reports and other fantastic features to create a really one of a kind documentary.
In addition, there will be interviews with former managers, producers, close confidantes, band engineers, video directors and biographer Mark Beaumont. The awesome DVD can be purchased at seeofsound.com!
On a side note, Muse is quite disappointed in their label, Warner Music, at the moment for removing their music off illegal downloading sites such as, Spotify.
Chris Wolstenholme, bass player for the band, thinks it will surely reduce their fan base. "It's like taking your song off the radio, isn't it? You're instantly taking your song away from a group of potential listeners."
He has also insisted that the decision to remove free music is hardly the artists choice and accusses the music industry of doing anything to boost any revenue. "The corporations are setting the rules on these things because they're clutching at straws."
"They've lost so much money on record sales because of the internet. I do sometimes feel that this whole restriction that's been set on how your music can get out there these days that doesn't ever really come from the bands. It's coming from the corporations behind everything. As far as bands are concerned you just want people to hear your music whichever way they can."
Wolstenholme's brutally honest comments come after Edgar Bronfman, Warner Music CEO has stated that streaming music is dangerous for the music industry. "Free streaming services are clearly not positive for the industry and as far as Warner Music is concerned songs will not be licensed."
Kurt Cobain Bio-Film In The Works
Submitted by NimrodOnElmStreet on Sun, 02/21/2010 - 18:35
Director of the Academy Award nominated drama "The Messenger" is negotiating re-working the screenplay to a still untitled Kurt Cobain film on his life. Originally, screenwriter David Benioff of "Brothers" took on the project way back in 2007. Along with this, Oren Moverman will be taking on the reigns directing this long awaited flick.
Part of the material such as, Kurt's life, music and suicide will come partially from Charles R. Cross' book "Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain" from 2001. Universal had originally purchased the rights from widow, Courtney Love who had already given the rights for Cross to use in his book.
In 2005, writer and director Gus Van Sant made a fictional drama "Last Days" reminiscing about Kurt's drug habits and Benioff did extensive research on old friends in Aberdeen and Seattle to inform the Universal drafts.
This seems like it will definitley be an amazing bio-pic and we are extremely excited to see the finished product! Stay tuned for more updates!

Muse Scrap "Clash Of The Titans" Project
Submitted by NimrodOnElmStreet on Fri, 01/15/2010 - 00:38
Recently we told you about how super group, Muse is working on the soundtrack to "Clash of The Titans". Well, turns out it wasn't so!
Director, Louis Leterrier revealed to MTV that he wasn't exactly talking about the band themselves but more along the lines of just front-man Matt Bellamy doing it solo.
“It was not Muse ever. It was Matt Bellamy. I love Muse, I’m the biggest Muse fan ever, but I wanted something a little different. Matt wrote a lot of stuff, but he started his tour. So not so long ago, he called me and he was like ‘Louis, I’m so sorry. I have to be respectful to my audience and professional and I have to stop on Clash.’”
Leterrier had intended to for the rocker to work with composer Craig Armstrong on a half hour of music for the March 26th film release. However, instead Neil Davidge from Massive Attack will now be taking on the reigns for the movie. “Craig Armstrong is still doing the score and I called my friend Neil Davidge from Massive Attack to replace Matt for the areas that Matt was doing. So it’ll be Craig Armstrong and Massive Attack, which is pretty exciting.”
Despite the letdown, Leterrier still considers himself a huge fan of Matt's work and is interested in working together sometime down the road. “On my computer I’ve got great Matt Bellamy stuff, It’s like a rain check, like let’s do something later.”
Speaking of these guys, the trio's new video for "Resistance" premiered on all music networks yesterday January 14th and is part of Muse's latest album bearing the same name. The vid was directed by Wayne Isham and allows everyone to take a gander at the band's energetic live shows. "Resistance" has hit number three on the Billboard Hot 200 since its September 2009 release.
In case you missed the premiere, here's the video below!

Tiffany Shepis portrays the main character which is simply known as Michelle while other characters have more creative names like Murderball, Q and Pussywagon.
Joining the 3D bandwagon is number seven, "Piranha 3D", opening on April 16. French director, Alex Aja who worked on "High Tension" and "The Hills Have Eyes'", has promised this film to be a "rollercoaster ride". This remake is basically a "1978 'Jaws' knock off" about a government-generated evil fish who takes the lives of swimmers.
Coming in at number six is this spring's "My Soul to Take", which was formerly known as "25/8" but was renamed after a line in the film using the term was cut during post-production.
Master of horror, Wes Craven directs his latest project since 2005's "Red Eye" and is the first screenplay he's written since "New Nightmare" in 1994. It's a thrilling tale about a serial killer stalking a small town and promises to return and kill seven young children who are born the evening he dies.
Mid-way through the list comes "The Ward" at number five from horror film veteran, John Carpenter. You may remember him from "Ghost of Mars", "Cigarette Burns" and "Pro-Life". This particular film is a classic ghost story taking place in the 1960's in which Amber Heard, is committed into a psych ward.
At number four and opening February 19th, Martin Scorsese makes an adaptation of the Denis Lehane novel in "Shutter Island". Hollywood actors, Leonardo Dicaprio, Mark Ruffalo and Ben Kingsley star in this creeper.

Taking place in the heart of 'Predator'-world, this is the sequel to the first 1987 flick. So you know what that means? Viewers get new everything: "new weapons, new bad-ass characters and various lethal critters that are indigenous to the Predator world." The studio put it on the back-burner because the budget for the film was too high in price.
At close second comes "Frozen" opening up February 5th. Three young adults are deserted on a ski lift that's been closed for over a week. This film was submitted by Adam Green at the Sundance festival and even had fans of the movie using their own strategies on forums on how to escape the situation. Even TV show "' Mythbusters' found no proper way out of a stuck ski lift without some major damage being inflicted to one's body. "
At number one, Rounding out the top 10 is none other than, "A Nightmare On Elm Street" directed by Samuel Bayer and produced by Michael Bay. As we mentioned before this movie will open on April 30th, this is a reboot of the NOES saga. Wes Craven, Bob Shaye and Robert Englund have nothing to do with the film this time around. Instead, you can welcome Jackie Earle Haley as the new Freddy!

Awesome Films For 2010!
Submitted by NimrodOnElmStreet on Fri, 12/11/2009 - 18:54
The year isn't even over yet, and already new movie previews for 2010 are popping up all over the place. Breaking out of her Twilight shell, Kirsten Stewart will be taking on the role of Joan Jett in "The Runaways" alongside "New Moon" fellow cast member Dakota Fanning who will play alongside Stewart as Jett's bandmate and girlfriend.
Stewart is excited and grateful that she is able to portray the 70's punk rocker's life. "It's the coolest opportunity I've ever been given. The reason rock 'n' roll is the way it is now and the reason girls are allowed to be not just outspoken but sexually aggressive is because The Runaways did it first."
On a personal level, Stewart says she's gotten to know Jett better and even considers her as one of her friends. "I hadn't heard of the band before I started production on The Runaways. Everybody knows Joan Jett but nobody really remembers how she got her start. Now I feel she's become my friend. This was the most important time of her life and I really hope I did it right, but it's, like, pretty daunting. It's scary."
The Runaways was written and directed by Floria Sigismondi and is also based on Neon Angles, who was written by Cherry Currie, the group's singer. There still is no specific date as to when the movie will appear in theaters, so keep an eye out for it!
For you hardcore Tim Burton fans, be sure to catch Disneys' remake of Alice in Wonderland on March 5th, 2010 starring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. Alice finds herself in hilarious and wacky situations after she stumbles down a rabbit hole and encounters a Cheshire Cat, a hookah smoking caterpillar and a violent queen in this imaginary land. Also starring in the flick are Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Crispin Glover and Mia Wasikowska, this should be awesome!
Delving into the dark realm of horror movies, Nightmare On Elm Street returns with a reboot to this 1984 thriller series revolving around psychopath Freddy Krueger who haunts his victims in their dreams. The film is produced by Michael Bay and directed by Samuel Bayer, who has previously worked on videos for Green Day's, "American Idiot" and Nirvana. Catch this psychological thriller in theaters on April 30th, 2010.

Fantastic Movie Weekend
Submitted by NimrodOnElmStreet on Fri, 11/13/2009 - 16:04
It is officially the weekend but do you know what are your plans should be? Why not hit the local theater and watch some cool new movies that were just released?
With a current score of 57 percent "Fresh" on the RottenTomatoes.com comes a flick for the rocker at heart, I'm talking of course about Pirate Radio. It's a tale about how British rock music underwent a revolutionary change in the 1960's thanks to an American DJ portrayed by Philip Seymour Hoffman. In a nutshell, Hoffman revolts and illegally broadcasts his rock records non-stop from a ship in the middle of the ocean much to the dismay of the English media.
This is great for huge fans of "The Who", Cream and The Kinks as it contains a fantastic soundtrack as well as big laughs according to critics. We here at Nimrod Street are super excited to see how one man was able to triumph over such adversity and bring rock music back to the masses.
Now for those of you Nimrods wanting to catch a glimpse of our possible impending doom, check out the sure to be blockbuster of the year, 2012! From the director that brought you "Independence Day", "Godzilla" and "Day After Tomorrow", Robert Emmerich is destroying the Earth once again. John Cusack plays a Science Fiction writer trying desperately to save his family from the catastrophe ancient Mayans predicted would take place on December 21st, 2012.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the movie will likely have a few flaws giving it a mediocre score of 36 percent but will still deliver with non-stop action and explosions. American Idol contestant, Adam Lambert contributes his talents to the soundtrack with his song, "Time For Miracles".
Other movies due out on limited release are:
- Fantastic Mr. Fox
- The Messenger
- Four Seasons Lodge
- The Good Soldier
- The End of Poverty?
- William Kunstler: Disturbing The Universe
- Uncertainty
- Women In Trouble
- Dare
- Oh My God
- Ten9Eight: Shoot For The Moon
Here's a teaser trailer of 2012, hope you all had a happy Friday the 13th everyone!
Coldplay On 'New Moon' Soundtrack?
Submitted by NimrodOnElmStreet on Tue, 06/16/2009 - 04:03
Hello peeps, what's the haps? Hoping ya'll are doing excellent!
Hey there Twilight freaks, got some groovy news for you all! A fan asked The Oracle on Coldplay's official QandA website if the rumor about the song, "The Scientist", appearing on the soundtrack to "New Moon" was indeed true.
The writer's question was answered as, "it's very likely that a Coldplay song will end up on the soundtrack to the Twilight sequel given that Stephanie Meyer has credited Coldplay, amongst others, on the inner sleeve for 'being instrumental in starving off the writer's block. ' " The quartet's Oracle hasn't directly set in stone the band confirming it as the song of choice.
Although, it may not be a bad move considering the film's first soundtrack is quite a top ten best seller. Featuring rockin' acts such as: Paramore, Linkin Park, Muse and many more.
Not familiar with Twilight? It's a best selling book series from author, Stephanie Meyer. It is mainly about a girl named Bella that falls in love with a vampire named, Edward. It's a modern day forbidden love story! Check out the stats for its last opening week, it racked up a whopping $70.5 million. I only expect the sequel to do even better.
Just to give you all a bit of a tease, watch the brand spankin' official trailer for "New Moon" below. The film opens everywhere November 20th, 2009!
