Top 10 Best Singles From April
Submitted by NimrodOnElmStreet on Tue, 05/05/2009 - 7:25pm
Hey there Nimrods, how are you doing today? Hope it's all going swell!
So April may be very well be over, but these tunes just keep rocking! The best top ten singles for April are posted on azcentral.com. You'll see a little bit of Franz Ferdinand, Green Day, and Eminem!
The top spot belonged to Franz Ferdinand with their hit "No You Girls". An infectious dance-rock kicked off 2009 with a huge bang! It weaved funk and 80's post-punk together to mark a new chapter for these rockers!
At number two is Art Brut's single, "Alcoholic Unanimous". If the title makes you giggle, so will the quirky lyrics. Witty lines like, "there's so many people I might have upset", and shrieks of "bring me tea, bring me coffee!" Killer guitars mixed with post-punk to hints of The Who. Frank Black of the Pixies offered a helping hand in producing the album as well!
Guess who's back? It's Eminem at number three with, "3 a.m."! OK so he may be a little kooky in real life, but Eminem as a serial killer? It seems this rapper has gone to the dark side, after all they have the world's best cookies there. Slim Shady even has quoted lines from 'Silence Of The Lambs'. As if this isn't a bit scary enough, the chorus to the tune might freak you out more, "it's 3 a.m. in the mornin', put my key in the door, bodies layin' all over the floor and I don't remember how they got there but I Guess I must've killed 'em".
The Thermals are at number four with their song, "When We Were Alive". From the album, "Now We Can See", comes this second single exploding with garage-punk. The storyline comes from a body buried in the ground in his own backyard. A line from the song reads, "you should've seen us in our prime."
Kanye West and Clipse duet on "Kinda Like A Big Deal". This dynamic duo come in at number five with a song about how great they are. This single comes from the album, "Till the Casket Drops". West insists on calling himself "the black Marshall Mathers, meets Jay-Z."
The exotic riff of Dirty Projectors hit tune, "Stillness is the Move", is enough to make it to number 6. This modern art-pop track features Amber Coffman's stunning vocals with a hip-hop backdrop. Groovy!
Jarvis Cocker shows us that less is more with "Angela" at number 7. A simple guitar-riff is followed by a tambourine, then completed with drums. Best part of the song isn't the catchy one liner, "she's nearly 23 making 4.50 an hour, complimentary shower", it's the killer lead-guitar break. Producer, Steve Albini guarantees it's everything you wouldn't expect from Cocker.
With his "Usual Suspects", Rick Ross goes back in time for an old-school R&B tune. Ross and Nas collaborate on a track which boasts about life and money. Especially with these lyrics, "I used to stand on rooftops with two glocks", no wonder it was a top hit.
Do You "Know Your Enemy"? Green Day shriek out over crunchy guitar riffs in true protest fashion! From the power-pop album, "21 Century Breakdown" due out May 15th, 2009. Drawing influences from the Beatles, Cheap Track, The Who and the Jam, the author of the article says it could have been an outtake from their fourth album, "Insomniac". I have to say, it's definitely one of my favorite tunes!
Concluding at number 10 is Todd Snider with, "America's Favorite Pasttime". Snider is better known as the folksinger fro "Talkin' Seattle Grunge Rock Blues". "Pastime" is about Pittsburgh Pirate Dock Ellis who failed to pitch a home run due to being high on LSD. What may surprise you is this isn't the only song about Ellis, but is the only one that made it on to the charts.
There ya have it Nimrods, April's ten best singles. Let's hope this month produces some more awesome tunes!
Mark Hoppus Reveals Video Details
Submitted by NimrodOnElmStreet on Sat, 04/25/2009 - 1:11am
Hey there Nimrods, how's the weekend going so far? Enjoying yourselves? I hope so!
Last Thursday Blink 182 shot a video for something they wont unveil yet. Their record label, Interscope, didn't provide any helpful information either.
Mark Hoppus wrote on his blog, HiMyNameIsMark.com, that Blink started rehearsing for the first time in years. Fans were over the moon excited just to know their favorite trio were making sweet music again.
He also sent an email to MTV.com revealing details about this mysterious video shoot. Without saying too much, he did let us in on some cool info, "it's definitely not what it seems to be. It's really not a music video shoot, and it's not really a movie shoot. It's something that no other band has done, and the technology behind it is ridiculous. I don't even know how to explain it."
Some pictures leads the fan to believe it's all going to be shot on a green screen, but Hoppus is vague about that as well, "I can tell you this... when everything is finished, you wont be seeing a big green wall behind us. It'll be a different shade of green, more of a forest-y green. But they have to do that digitally, as we couldn't find forest-green paint."
Can't wait to see what Blink has in store for us! The band are planning on making an album and a tour by this summer. Should be interesting!
Slayer In The Studio
Submitted by NimrodOnElmStreet on Fri, 04/24/2009 - 3:21am
Hey there everyone, how are you doing today? Ready for the weekend? I bet you are!
Let's get our heavy metal juices flowing! Slayer are making a comeback this year, and they're going to prove they are faster and better than ever. Producer, Greg Fidelman asks guitarist Kerry King, "can I interest you in something fast and aggressive?"
The duo is working on a track, "Build Up". King replies, "Man, I don't even remember it being that fast. We're fucking flying!" You may also like to know what other songs are in progress right? "7 String", "Drop B", "Industrial" and "Psychopathy Red". The last tune was recorded last October, and is already leaked.
These heavy metallers are just over five weeks into recording, still in very early stages. The album will be out in July and will have 11 tracks. Just blooming perfect for the second annual Mayhem Festival with Marilyn Manson. There aren't any lyrics penned apparently. Executive producer will be Rick Rubin, he also produced "Reign in Blood" from 1986.
The guitarist, 44 years of age, asks himself, "why do I write this shit at my age? It's fucking brutal. It's exciting to be part of it and I'm excited to be writing this heavy fucking shit. It's still in the blood." Having been around for 30 years, Slayer has created metal-punk which is known as thrash.
They're in the same ballpark with rock's finest: Metallica, Judas Preist and Iron Maiden. This will be their second album with the original line up since the return of Lombardo in 2002. Commenting on his departure, Kerry says, "Dave needed to be away from us, and we needed to be away form him. He's played with some musicians, not just dumb-ass thrash guitar players. That only makes us better when we apply thrash, and he applies his drums to what we're doing. He's had 12 years of different schooling that he may never have gotten. When he came back, we were all grown up now, and nobody had problems or issues. It was cool."
Slayer's process of music making has not changed much either, "we're trying to capture our live sound, and I play fucking loud. Religion-bashing, making people think for themselves", King says. These rockstars hope to capture a newer generation of metal lovers, "in the last 10 years, we've had girls in the pit, throwin' with dudes and holding their own every step in the way. It use to be girls were girls, and they might show up with their boyfriends. Now girls are fuckin' into it. And they let you know."
Parents are also taking their kids, "you'd be surprised how many fucking diapers I've signed."
Tom Araya, singer for Slayer, does give credit to their fans for their longevity, "I credit that to kids discovering Slayer in junior high school. Or the friend hanging out with his buddy who's listening to something he thinks is heavy. And he goes, 'Ha! Heavy? It's like the 'Twlight Zone movie' : You want to hear something really heavy? Listen to this."

More U2 Tour Plans
Submitted by NimrodOnElmStreet on Sat, 04/04/2009 - 10:46pm
Hello Hello everyone, how are you doing? Enjoying the weekend so far? We are!
U2 have been planning their most ambitious tour ever in support of their new album, "No Line On The Horizon".
Their last tour ended November 2006, and towards the end of it, show director Willie Williams has been sketching out plans for the next tour. I bet all the fans are super excited to see the guys again! This is going to be absolutely awesome!
The stage set involves a huge four- legged monster with speakers mounted on every side allowing the band to play a stadium show, and interacting with fans all around!
The tour titled, The 360 Degree Tour, kicks off in Barcelona, Spain starting on June 30th. Bono and his band will hit the states September 12th in Chicago. Williams says, "the band is just sitting in the palm of the audience's hand, it really works." Lead singer Bono adds, "it creates this real physical proximity to the crowd."
Hitting 13 cities in the states during the fall, they'll add another leg in 2010! It will also be the first of tour in the US of A since their PopMart Tour. Even if the economy is in the dumps, good news is tickets will be just $30 bucks! "It enables us to subsidize lower-priced tickets with higher-priced tickets," says U2's manager, Paul McGuinne
Meet the CLAW! That's right, this huge 164 foot tall structure is twice as high as their previous stadium stage set. The sound system is amazing as well! The four sides of this monstrosity will have a full-size sound system. So if you're doing the math right, there will be 72 subwoofers!
The Willie Williams got inspired by the very futuristic, Disney-style LAX building! "It looks like a spaceship on four legs," he says.

Hiya Nimrods! Hope you're having a great day and an even better week!
First off, we want to say Happy April Fools Day to all. It's the start of a new month that's filled to the rim with excellent music. Here's something that is absolutely no joke!
Heavy metallers, Metallica will be inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame on April 4th, 2009. The show will air Saturday night at 9pm live from Cleavland, Ohio. Metallica's bass player, Jason Newsted, got a surprising phone call from their drummer, Lars Ulrich, "he said, 'We want you to rock with us. ' "
Newsted has been playing with the guys starting from 1986 to 2001. He revealed the band will be playing two songs at the event, "something old and something new." You can read the article from MuchMusic.com here. We'd like to say a HUGE congratulations to Metallica for this prestigious honor!
Speaking of Metallica, they have an informative page on Fuse.tv letting you know all about them. Brush up on some facts by clicking here. Also, here's a video of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame press conference the rockers had with Fuse.

Tool Announce Tour 2009
Submitted by NimrodOnElmStreet on Mon, 03/30/2009 - 6:22pm
Hiya everyone, how are you doing today? We're doing great around here, we hope the same for you.
Rock band, Tool announce tour for 2009! Their website has revealed dates, although none have been confirmed as of just yet.
However, they have posted a message saying, "once they are finalized and official, we'll be sure to announce them on the site."
A press release has indeed confirmed Tool to headline Denver's Mile High Festival on July 18th and 19th. Rumors about the band have been circulating like crazy, they were mentioned on the Chicago Tribute as possible headliners for Lollapalooza. The rockers did agree to perform in the 1993 and 1997 Lolla fests, so it could very well be possible - you never know!
Tool's last tour spanned world wide and last 18-months. It kicked off April 2006's Coachella Festival, it ended December 2007 in Vegas. They swear to their fans the dates for this coming tour will be "posted soon."
Their last album titled "10,000 Days" was released in 2006. Maynard James Keenan, Tool's frontman, has spent his time on his solo project "Puscifer". Which I happen to love the song "Rev: 22:20", you can find this tune on the soundtrack to "Underworld".

A Little Something New From Blink 182
Submitted by NimrodOnElmStreet on Tue, 03/24/2009 - 10:19pm
Howdy everyone on Nimrod Street! Hope today was really great for you all, we've got some cool stuff to share.
Philadelphia Music site, TheExaminer.com has posted an article about punk rockers, Blink 182. The title of the article is, "Do We Still Care About Blink-182? I Feel The Answer Is Yes".
It starts off with the year 2005 and the band has finished its last album and world tour, bands like Fall Out Boy and The Killers are gaining more and more popularity. However, Blink has just announced its "indefinite hiatus."
It goes into the details of both guitarist, Tom Delonge and bassist, Mark Hoppus reason to call off the band, then starting their new side band projects. Delonge went to form space like rock band, Angles And Airwaves, Hoppus and former drummer, Travis Barker joined forces to make Plus 44.
Exactly three years later Barker is in a plane crash during September 2008. He and a friend, DJ AM were the only survivors. Four other passengers were instantly killed. Thankfully, Travis and DJ AM were to fully recover within a year or less! Both Mark and Tom went to visit their friends in the hospital which sparked conversation between the two. This is when the media started buzzing with possible reunion rumors.
The guys made an appearance February 8th, 2009 when they announced on stage at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards they were officially back. From that day on, their website changed and it included a promise for Summer 2009 to tour world wide with a new album release.
Since they have reunited, the guys are all over the media! The question still remains, do fans and other music lovers still care about Blink 182? It's totally obvious the music industry is on its toes and excited for summer. On his blog, Mark Hoppus posted a one liner message for fans to look out for changes on all the guys' sites, "keep your eyes open on the blink-182 sites in the next day or so for a little something new."
A few days later he also posted a You Tube video from a photo shoot with photographer, Estevan Oriol. It also included a little around their recording studio and a look at some of the instruments they've been using.
Take a minute and a half out of your busy day to enjoy "a little something new" from Blink 182!
