Green Day: Rock Band Debuts June 8th
Submitted by NimrodOnElmStreet on Tue, 06/08/2010 - 12:00am
Green Day will debut their very own Rock Band Today, June 8th and will be available for Wii, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. MTV caught up with the punk rock trio and asked why they chose to move forward with this project.
Billie Joe Armstrong hopes it will encourage kids to be inspired to pick up a real instrument and learn as much as they can.
"When I've seen 'Rock Band,' what I've noticed is that there's a lot of old songs and different kinds of songs by different bands that kids are picking up on. And that's what I thought was so cool about it ... ['Rock Band' is] its own radio station in a way. But, you know, you're sort of involved with it. And though you're playing plastic guitars, I think it might even have inspired some people to actually go out and, you know, get real guitars and real drums and start to figure it out on their own, you know?"
Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt both describe the first time they had ever heard of Rock Band and thought it was an all around fun time no matter what age its players are.
"The first time I ever saw 'Rock Band,' uh, it was like in a pub in California and they had a TV and they had the game set up in a little corner," Cool added. "And the people that were in there were having a good time and drinking and stuff. ... It was an instant party. [And I was like] 'That's pretty cool!' They were grownups, playing games."
"I've played 'Rock Band' a few times, with family friends and their kids, you know, go in there and try to jam with them," Mike Dirnt said. "And my experience prior to us being a part of it in any way shape or form has been, uh, it's hard! But then you certainly catch on, you know ... eventually."
We're super excited to get our hands on this! We pre-ordered the plus edition and can't wait to start rocking out! Here's Green Day speaking about Rock Band.

In other news, Green Day recently spoke to MTV News about their new album. Billie Joe said that they'll be going back-to-basics. "It's just been songwriting right now. Instead of doing it later on, we decided to start doing stuff now. ... It's all back to the basics again. Just getting in a room together and start jamming. We set up all of our old gear, which was like an experiment. We set up all of our equipment from 1992, and we sat in a room. We got in, and I was like, 'Come on, guys, we're getting back in!' and I [start playing] and go, 'This sounds like sh--!' Everything sounded so bad."
"Me and [drummer] Tre [Cool] were looking at Billie going, 'Really, you've got to pull out that POS amp?' " Mike Dirnt said "I mean, it really sounded like crap."
The new record wont be out anytime soon as Armstrong has pointed out. "It's still really early. We've got to start translating the songs and explaining the songs, and the next step will be arguing about the songs."

Green Day Planning New Album
Submitted by NimrodOnElmStreet on Wed, 03/17/2010 - 1:58pm
Continuing our celebration of Saint Patrick's Day, we are serving up a double serving of Green with a second story! This time around we are focusing on a recent new rumor on the status of Green Day's follow up to their latest masterpiece!
Almost a year after releasing their eighth album, "21st Century Breakdown", rumors are already starting to circulate that the guys are working on the follow up.
According to Kerrang.com Billie Joe and his crew have been confirmed to have been to recording studios while on their European tour last October. The front-man is also reportedly promising the project will be done soon and fans wont have to wait a grueling five more years to hear new material.
Armstrong has told K magazine the group have been putting demos together whenever they could during downtime. “We did some demos in Berlin, some in Stockholm, some just outside of Glasgow and some in Amsterdam. We wanted get [the songs] down in some early form."
Could this be the EP they were talking about last year? Only time will tell what exactly is going on. All Kerrang is saying that to read the rest of this interview you need to pick up a copy of their magazines when it hits news stands this week! Either way, I'm very excited for the things to come.
As for now, Green Day is set to release "Green Day: Rock Band" on June 8th and do another leg of their North American tour on August 3rd with supporters, AFI.

The long awaited "Green Day: Rock Band" will be available worldwide on June 8th on Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. The game will include support for up to three microphones and three instruments! Players will be able to unlock collectible images and 40 minutes of "rare and unreleased" footage from interviews, performances and outtakes as the game progresses.
This rockin' game will also be using the same vocal harmonizing as "The Beatles: Rock Band" and comes fully loaded with 47 awesome Green Day tunes such as: "Brain Stew", "Jaded", "Hitchin' a Ride", "American Idiot", "Wake Me Up When September Ends" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams".
Also, all of the 47 tracks will be able to fully export to a console hard drive and are playable in Rock Band and Rock Band 2, plus the upcoming Rock Band: 3 for $9.99 via Xbox Live or Playstation Networks. If you already downloaded the six tracks that were available as DLC, these too can be playable with added harmonies, " 'unique' visuals and more 'exclusive archival material".
"Green Day: Rock Band" will be available as a standalone game for Xbox and Playstaion 3 for a relatively modest $59.99, while the Wii owners can cough up just $49.99 for their copy. The special edition "GD: RB Plus" will come to these gaming consoles for $69.99 and include not only fancy packaging, but will come featuring an "export" feature, which is assumed to probably be a voucher to "export the disc tracks to the hard drive", as well as the six previously released tracks.
For those of you who want to pre-order, there's a bonus for the standalone game from Game Stop which comes with a voucher for Xbox and PS3. What does this mean to you?
