gdgrammy2010The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards were held last night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. This star studded event featured artists spanning all musical genres such as: Katy Perry, Weird Al Yankovic, Jay-Z, Rhianna and several others.

After losing twice to Kings of Leon for "Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group" and "Best Rock Song", Green Day snagged a Grammy for "Best Rock Album" for "21st Century Breakdown". They beat out AC/DC, U2, Dave Matthews Band and Eric Clapton who were also nominated for this category. The guys also pulled off an electrifying performance of "21 Guns" with the cast of the "American Idiot" musical.

Other rockstar winners included Bruce Springsteen for the "Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance" category, AC/DC for "Best Hard Rock Performance" and Judas Priest for "Best Metal Performance".

Rounding out the final award for "Album Of The Year" was Taylor Swift who also took home three other trophies for "Best Country Song", "Best Country Album" and "Best Female Country Vocal Performance". Also scoring big last night was Beyonce for snagging "Song of The Year", "Best Female R&B Vocal Performance", "Best R&B Song", "Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance" and "Best Contemporary R&B Album".

Congratulations to all of the evening's winners! Before we let you go, here's Green Day's performance of "21 Guns"!

GreenD2010Jann Wenner, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Chief and Co-founder of Rolling Stone Magazine, is considering lowering the inductee eligibility requirements to 20 years due to the lack of artists able to fit the current criteria according to Showbiz411.

This is great news as Green Day could very well be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with Guns N' Roses. Both bands may become eligible earlier than anticipated if organizers decide to bend the rules a bit. The current rules are that the nominees can only be considered 25 years after the release of their debut record.

This means big news for acts like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Public Enemy and Kid Rock. The downside is it wont sit well with those still waiting to be inducted into the Hall such as: Kiss, Deep Purple, Yes, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and King Crimson, who haven't even received a nomination.

Hall of Fame aside, our beloved Tre Cool came in at number nine on The Ten Funniest Dudes in Rock according to Chartattack.com. The drummer is described as "a really weird dude" and was even compared to Andy Kaufman as which comedian he'd be most like. Not bad!

Grabbing the number one spot was Josh Homme from Queens Of The Stone Age, paired up with George Carlin as who he represents the best. Labeled as "the guy everyone wants to hang out with", Homme comes across as "a natural" when it comes to comedy.

Last but not least, Mike Dirnt's restaurant, "Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe", will be featured on Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-In's and Dives" 10pm EST today January 25th on Food Network. It's all part of Fieri's "Triple D Tailgatin' special" where he'll hit up three local food joints following a Raiders home game. In case you Nimrods miss it, the show will also air January 26th at 1am and February 5th at 9pm.

rockband2009Green Day recently announced at the 7the annual Video Game Awards that they will be featured in their very own Rock Band game, titled adequately enough... "Green Day: Rock Band". Not only will it feature the band members themselves, but also venues that are very close to the group's history.

"This game will feel like a natural extension of Green Day and music that will deepen the fans’ connection to the band and their history", says CEO and co-founder of Harmonix music, Alex Rigopulos. The game will also span the rocker's career as it will include the entire band's catalogue, from old music to their latest work on "Breakdown". It will sell worldwide sometime in 2010 and available on PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360!

Now, speaking of tours, the guys have gigs lined up all over Asia and Great Britain next year with supporting act, Prima Donna. Irish fans have something to smile about as well since the guys are planning to return to Dublin on June 23rd, 2010 and play at Marlay Park. Be sure to get up extra early because tickets for this one-date show go on sale Friday morning at 9 a.m.

Concert promoters have exclusively revealed to the Herald that this is expected to be the largest show of the new year. The news shortly follows the guys sweeping the Rolling Stone's end of decade Readers' Poll. Way to go guys!

Unfortunately, the gig for yesterday December 15th in Melbourne, Australia had to be re-scheduled due to Billie Joe coming down with what is suspected to be food poisoning. Tickets remained valid for the next evening but if fans weren't able to get to the show, they're immediately urged to get a refund from where they were purchased. We wish Billie Joe a quick recovery!

Before wrapping up, here's Green Day making their Rock Band announcement!

They also share these categories with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, U2, and Coldplay.

The guys have been nominated for 15 Grammys over the years and have walked away with three trophies two for "Rock Album of The Year" and "Record of The Year" for 2004's, "American Idiot", and "Best Alternative Music Performance" for their their 1994 record, "Dookie". We wish them the best of luck next year when the Grammys air on January 31st, 2010 on CBS at 8pm EST.

Other artists nominated include Taylor Swift which leads the pack with eight nominations including "Song of The Year", "Record of The Year", "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance", and "Album of The Year". Stephen Colbert is included in the Comedy category with his Christmas record, "A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift Of All" along with Weird Al Yankovic's "Internet Leaks". Dave Matthews Band, Lady Gaga and MGMT are all up for two nominations each and I have to say, this is going to turn into quite an award show!

Other interesting news revolving around our guys, Green Day have re-recorded a new version of "21 Guns" with the cast of the musical, "American Idiot". The song premiered for the first time Thursday, December 3rd on Spinner.com and was expected to have already hit radio on Friday, December 4th. Featuring the vocals of Rebecca Naomi Jones, a full on choir and of course Green Day, the song is taken to a whole new level according to Billie Joe Armstrong. "We wanted to record '21 Guns' because it represents a pivotal moment in the show when the lead character ...realizes he needs to get his shit together. I couldn't be happier. It's great to have something out there for people to hear who didn't get to see the show."

Want more great news? Green Day are extending their Rock Band track-list by adding more songs, they include: "Christian's Inferno", "iViva La Gloria!" and "Last of The American Girls". Not only will the songs be available individually on gaming consoles like PlayStation 3, XBox and Wii but also in a "Green Day Pack 02". Two of the three tracks, "iViva La Gloria!" and "American Girls" will also be available at the LEGO Rock Band Music Store. All these fantastic songs will be available to you on December 15th and December 17th for PlayStation Networks.

Last but not least, what's in store for Green Day in the coming new year? The guys have confirmed a "huge" North American tour, but haven't scheduled any specific tour dates as of yet.

Here are the guys backstage at the AMA's announcing the news!

Green Day UK 2009The guys from Green Day had a wild rock n rollin' Halloween night performing a secret show in London this past weekend as their alter-ego's, the Foxboro Hot Tubs. Back in the summer of 2008, we told you about rumors spreading around the internet, that the band would be rocking out in the United Kingdom. You asked for it to be true, and now... well, ask and you shall receive.

Not only did Green Day do their "21st Century Breakdown" set in Birmingham earlier that evening, but these rockers also hit the stage at the Relentless Garage a bit before 1am and gave invited guests, contest winners and fanclub members an unforgettable night.

Billie Joe Armstrong came out on stage first and introduced himself as The Reverend Strychnine Twist, he spent most of the evening goofing off with the audience while crowd surfing, spitting and spraying beer all over the place. A short while later, Mike Dirnt walked on smoking a cigarette and Tre Cool also took part in spraying down the crowd with loads of beer.

The garage trio did all the usual songs from last year's release of "Stop, Drop And Roll" and also treated their fans to "Blood, Sex and Booze" from "Warning" and "Supermodel Robots" from their 2003 side-project, The Network. Mike Dirnt continued his silly ways when he added his own sense of humor to the shenanigans. "The only reason you're here is you didn't go to church yesterday".

Taking a short but much needed break, the guys returned on stage for an electrifying encore. The Reverend announced to the pumped up crowd of adoring fans exactly what he had up his sleeve.  "Before anything else, we're going to play the first song over again." By the time the Tubs ended their show, "Stop, Drop And Roll" would've been performed six times, every time attempting to do it better than their previous try.

This wasn't the only song they played more than once, "27th Avenue Shuffle" was repeated twice, the rest of the set was filled with some awesome covers including: "Blitzkreig Bop"  by the Ramones, "Johnny B Goode" by Chuck Berry, "My Generation" and "A Quick One, While He's Away" by The Who.

On the topic of repetitive banter, the Tubbies proceeded to do a line in the song, "you are forgiven", countless times, after that they played "Stop, Drop And Roll" for the last freaking time.

Foxboro Hot Tubs set-list included:

  • "Stop, Drop And Roll"
  • "Mother Mary"
  • "Midnight Train"
  • "Ruby Room"
  • "Blood, Sex And Booze"
  • "Highway 1"
  • "She's A Saint, Not A Celebrity"
  • "Sally"
  • "Alligator"
  • "Supermodel Robots"
  • "The Pedestrian"
  • "27th Avenue Shuffle"
  • "Dark Side Of Night"
  • "Pieces Of Truth"
  • "Stop, Drop And Roll"
  • "Stop, Drop And Roll"
  • "Stop, Drop And Roll"
  • "Stop, Drop And Roll"
  • "27th Avenue Shuffle"
  • "My Generation"
  • "Jonny B Goode"
  • "Blitzkreig Bop"
  • "Red Tide"
  • "A Quick One, While He's Away"
  • "Stop, Drop And Roll"

Other than a one-off gig as their alter-egos, what else do Green Day have planned for England in 2010? Our guys in Green have announced the first outdoor shows since Breakdown's release. They'll be bringing their theatrical live concert back to British shores for two nights on June 16th, June 19th and another date in Paris on June 26th

Tickets for the event go on sale November 6th at 9am and will cost between 49.50 to 42.50 for London and 39.50 for Manchester. You'll be able to get them from the box office numbers listed in the recent article, or online at ticketmaster.co.uk!

Dates and venues are listed below:

  • Wednesday June 16th 2010 - Manchester Lancasher County Cricket Ground
  • Saturday June 19th 2010 - London Wembley Stadium
  • Saturday June 26th 2010 - Parc des Princes in Paris

There is a lot of excitement emerging from camp Green Day! Let's just hope that when they return to the states they'll rock us out a second time!

Before we let you go, here is a video of the Tubs rocking out London!

In a recent article, Green Day were spotted making use of a new recording studio and practice room at Sonic Boom Studios during a day off in Glasgow. Not only were they hard at work, but the trio also hung out with the studio's owner, Bankie George Henry.

Henry explains how these punk rockers decided to make Sonic Boom their top choice and how it all came about. "They had asked to find some studio time for the day to demo two brand new tracks, which we wont hear for at least a year".

"They asked a mutual friend of Green Day's tour management and myself and they ended up booking in to Sonic Boom for the whole day after hearing what we had to offer in our recording studio. Billie Joe and Mike turned up around 5pm and stayed until 10pm tracking their new stuff - it was a great experience and I even got to play some drums as well".

Of course Henry also shares that he was definitely not just surprised, but obviously star struck by the whole situation. "I'm still gobsmacked that they were actually here".

Also, the group did an interview in Birmingham for Absolute Radio right before their sound-check and when asked if we can expect to hear something new in the near future, Billie Joe said that maybe they would do an EP, but mostly consisted of Green Day touring. Nothing is set in stone as of yet, but Nimrod Street will let you know as we find out more! Let's hope these mystery songs surface sometime soon!

In other news, rapper Kid Cudi is announcing his requests to collaborate with our men in Green on an upcoming compilation album called, "Cudder" to MTV News. It may sound a bit odd for this hip-hopper to want to work with punks like Armstrong and the gang, but Cudi points out some other odd duets he's done in the past. A prime example would be when he worked with MGMT and Ratatat on "Pursuit of Happiness".

"On the Ratatat song, you can hear Ratatat and you can hear me; we don't compromise each other. That's the same thing I want to do with anybody I work with. ... I don't want it to be, like, a Green Day song with me rapping over it. What I want to do is, have the triangle effect. Have Green Day involved and have them co-produce with someone like a Ratatat or my producers, do like a joint thing, and then we all create from the ground up. That way, it's like a fusion of each sound and each inspiration."

Guess we're just going to have to wait and see how these shenanigans turn out in the end!

New Green Day Video Premiere

Get ready to rock out because Green Day will be premiering the video for the title track to "21st Century Breakdown" later on today. This video was directed by Marc Webb who has also done other Green Day videos which include "21 Guns", and "Waiting" from the 2000 album, "Warning".

This may seem a little contradictory to other reports floating around on the internet and may stir up a few Green Day fans following their latest news. Back on September 25th, Green Day's official website indicated that the video being released today would be "East Jesus Nowhere" . While we have tried to make sense of all the official reports, we can only assume that it's production was held back and the guys have decided to move forward with the video for "Breakdown".

Several countries around the world will be able to watch the premiere online as well. You can find a list of countries that will be able to stream the video online at greenday.com, however MTV Euro will cater to the countries not listed in the article. Don't miss out! This is going to be pretty amazing, we're pretty excited ourselves!

Also, there's great news in the Green camp since the guys have been nominated for a 2009 American Music Award for the "Favorite Alternative Rock Artists" category along with "Kings of Leon" and Shinedown. The ceremony takes place November 22nd on ABC. Personally, I wish Green Day all the very best of luck!

Update: Due to copyright infringement (or so they say) You Tube has take down the "21st Century Breakdown" video.

gdbd.png Green Day.com has announced recently that the trio are scheduled to release yet another rocking video from their latest album. In addition to the currently un-scheduled video for their title track "21st Century Breakdown" , our boys in green have additionally been adding finishing touches to the video for "East Jesus Nowhere" which will be aired on October 19th.

The latest track made to video is the opening tune for the album's second act, "Charlatans and Saints", and is essential to the central concept behind "Breakdown". It speaks about the hypocrisy and misuse of organized religion, and is inspired by both Billie Joe Armstrong's and Tre Cool's experience at a church during a friend's baby dedication. The video release of "East Jesus Nowhere" also coincides with Green Day's UK leg of their "21st Century Breakdown" tour.

Speaking of the UK, it seems that the 21 pieces of artwork that had been commissioned by the band will be displayed in an art exhibition at the StolenSpace Gallery in Shoreditch, East London. The gallery will run from October 22nd to November 1st and will also feature portraits of the band members themselves.

Music-News.com reports that Armstrong and the rest of Green Day are very excited to have their art shown off since both music and art share a lot in common. "We're really excited to be associated with this incredible show. Seeing the pieces that our new album has inspired is very exciting. We feel a strong connection to that type of creative expression; we think the fans coming out will love it."

Green Day's European tour now looks as follows according to GreenDay.com:

  • October 19th Glasgow SECC
  • October 23rd London O2 Arena
  • October 24th London O2 Arena
  • October 26th Sheffield Arena
  • October 27th Birmingham LG Arena
  • October 28th Birmingham LG Arena
  • October 30th Manchester MEN Arena
  • October 31st Manchester MEN Arena
  • November 1st London Wembley Arena

Green Day Wins Best Rock Video

bj09.pngHello there fellow Nimrods!

What a show! Green Day have victoriously won the award for Best Rock Video at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Other nominees sharing this category included Coldplay, Kings of Leon, Fall Out Boy and Paramore.

The Green trio won the Moonman for "21 Guns" off the album, "21st Century Breakdown" directed by Marc Webb. Previously, the guys said they were feeling very excited to be apart of the ceremony, which was dedicated in memory of the King of Pop Michael Jackson.

Since MJ's death, Green Day have played "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" at every single date during the "Breakdown" tour. Billie Joe Armstrong spoke to VH1 and MTV about how Jackson influenced the punk rocker's music, "I remember being in fifth grade, 'Thriller' came out, and 'Off The Wall' is a great record...We've been playing a song off it for our pre-show every night"

Green Day also brought down the house with a rockin' performance of "East Jesus Nowhere". Armstrong not only went into the audience, but also invited them to party with him on stage. Kudos on an awesome performance and a huge congrats for winning this epic award!

Something many people will be talking about at the water cooler this week, for better or worse was Kanye West's very rude interruption. During Taylor Swifts' acceptance speech for Best Female Video, West snatched the microphone away from her and announced that Beyonce had deserved to win. "Hey Taylor, I'm really happy for you, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time".  Taylor won the award for her tune, "You Belong With Me" which shared the nomination with Beyonce's "Single Ladies". Obviously Gay Fish's plan off attack was an epic fail because not only did the crowd boo him, but they gave Swift a standing ovation.

This wasn't the first time West has invaded the winners' space, he's also made rants about Gretchen Wilson, Justice and Simian, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.

Later on, Beyonce received a Moonman for Best Video Award and humbly invited Swift back on stage. "Wow, this is amazing. I remember being 17-years-old and up for my first MTV award with Destiny's Child. It was one of the most exciting moments in my life. So, I'd like for Taylor to come out and have her moment." Kudos to Beyonce for recognizing that Taylor's moment had been ruined and allowing her to take her bow.

To wrap things up, here's a video of Green Day at the pre-show, enjoy
