Hey there everyone, hope you're having a great day!
Desertnews.com did a whole five paged article on the band called, "New album dawns for Green Day." It summarizes their past career and how "21st Century Breakdown" marks a new chapter in the trio's lives.
Also, producer Butch Vig speaks about the band wanting to take a different direction, "I could feel that they sensed there was a lot of pressure. A lot of times when a band had a big album, they decide, 'let's go back to our roots and make a quick power-pop punk record, do something really easy.' They didn't want to do that."
It mentions that while the album may introduce new things like, ballads, Gypsy and Irish jigs, there is still that true punk rock sound that make Green Day who they are. Like "American Idiot", the disc revolves around a young couple, Christian and Gloria. Gloria being an idealist, and Christian is a pyro loving freak ready to burn everything in his path. These two may be complete opposites, but romance still exist between them.
Billie Joe explains that they represent both sides of himself, "it reflects two different sides of myself. You just go as deep as you possibly can, even when you don't like the things that you're thinking about or you're feeling."
Concluding the article, Armstrong feels that "Breakdown" is a soundtrack to some much needed rebelling, "you think about a song, like dream songs that you want to write: a song like, 'Break On Through' by the Doors, or, like, 'Street Fighting Man,' or, like, 'Revolution,' or 'Fight the Power.' It's something where you write the soundtrack to the chaos. And you write the soundtrack to some kind of revolt."
Those of you that were up and at them early this morning, saw the boys on Good Morning America kicking off the show's summer concert series. Thousands of fans rocked out in New York's Central Park as the trio played their older hits, as well as tunes from "Breakdown". You can view some awesome photos by clicking here.
Aside from seeing Green Day live, music lovers will experience a slew of live acts such as: Queen Latifah, Lionel Richie, John Legend, The Jonas Brothers, Brad Paisley and Jamie Foxx.
Don't miss Green Day on CBS Sunday Morning, Conan O' Brien and Carson Daly all coming up during the next few weeks.
The punk rockers appeared on The Colbert Report on Comedy Central May 21st, 2009. The political pundit spoke briefly with the guys about the anger and passion in their music, and the deal with this whole Wal-Mart controversy.
